In 2012, Let Me Google That For You was named one of Time's 50 Best Websites of the year. The site has since been discussed on a number of message boards including 4chan, the Adobe Community, Quora, Wowhead and MacRumors, who banned its use in May 2009. In the following week of the site's launch, LMGTFY was featured on Laughing Squid, Lifehacker, Gizmodo and CNET. ![]() Prior to the site’s creation, the phrase “let me Google that for you” had been used in the same manner on the MetaFilter MetaTalk board in January 2007 and Snopes message board in March 2007, though it is unclear whether or not the phrase had inspired the creation of LMGTFY. Let Me Google That For You was created on November 18th, 2008 by web developer Jim Garvin and software consultant Ryan McGeary.
